Global Warming: What You Need to KnowPublic OpinionEditorials supporting action to curb global warming (January–December 2007) Since the start of the 110th Congress papers from around the nation published hundreds of editorials supporting federal action to address the threat of climate change. Noted below is a sampling of editorial opinion compiled by the Pew Environment Group. For a further look at what editorial pages across the United States are saying about environmental issues please visit our Newsroom. Editorials calling for federal action on climate change "Congress and the states shouldn't wait. The Senate will take up the Lieberman-Warner Climate Security Act next month. Sponsored by Sens. Joseph I. Lieberman (I-Conn.) and John W. Warner (R-Va.), the bill would put a price on carbon through a declining cap in greenhouse gas emissions for each year between 2012 and 2050. In this cap-and-trade system, companies in the transportation, electric power and manufacturing sectors would purchase and trade allowances for the right to pollute the air." – The Washington Post, "Stalling in Bali: The Bush administration continues to say one thing and do another on climate change.," December 18, 2007. "The cost of acting responsibly is absurdly small – estimated at less than 0.12 percent of the global economy annually until 2050 – compared to the cost of doing nothing." – [Harrisburg, PA] The Patriot-News, "Tragic disconnect: Economy and environment will suffer if nothing is done to reduce manmade carbon emissions," November 21, 2007 Download a list of editorials from January - December 2007 (PDF) | Public OpinionContact UsMedia Government Operations Shannon Heyck-Williams
