Melting ice caps affect Middle Tennessee - The Tennessean - 18 November 2008
To the editor,
With all of the talk about the ice caps melting and polar bears struggling to survive, many people may not realize that global warming affects all of us right here in Tennessee.
For instance, over the last century, precipitation has increased by up to 10 percent in many parts of the state. This increased rainfall can cause flooding, which already is a problem in eastern Tennessee and in growing urban areas such as Davidson County.
We may think that global warming has no impact on our daily lives; but in actuality, we are already feeling its effects.
Please join me in encouraging our legislators to adopt a broad policy to combat climate change.
Sincerely,
Allison Piazza

Think about energy needs when voting - The Tennessean - 5 November 2008
To the Editor:
With the upcoming election, there is plenty of conversation about our nation’s energy crisis. It is crucial for our environment that we take the necessary steps to become energy-independent.
We can choose a new path, one that uses renewable energy sources like wind, solar and sustainable biomass to reduce global warming pollution and reduce the pain of rising energy costs. Energy efficiency and renewable energy sources can play a major role in meeting America’s energy needs.
Choosing a clean energy future will increase America’s independence, reinvigorate our economy with new jobs, and make our environment cleaner and safer. This transition will require millions of Americans to do the work of building, delivering and installing clean-energy solutions, and will create significant and sustainable economic growth.
Please support the effort to create a comprehensive national policy that will help
America enter into a clean- energy economy.
