PRESS RELEASE: Illinois Clean Energy Economy Has Driven Jobs, But Needs Policy Boost Pew Charitable Trusts, June 10, 2009

Illinois has one of the nation’s largest clean energy economies, with more than 28,000
jobs in 2007. The state lost jobs in the clean energy economic sector and in
total jobs between 1998 and 2007. But Illinois ranks eighth nationally in
clean technology patents, and the state attracted nearly $109 million in
clean technology venture capital in the past three years, much of it in the
Clean Energy category. Illinois’ renewable energy and energy efficiency
standards position the state for growth in the clean energy economy.
