PRESS RELEASE: Hawaii Clean Energy Economy Jobs Grew 6 Times Faster than Overall Jobs Pew Charitable Trusts, June 10, 2009

The Aloha State has a small but fast-growing piece of America's clean energy economy.
Hawaii's jobs in the clean energy economy grew from about 1,900 in 1998
to more than 2,700 in 2007—a much faster growth rate than that of total
jobs. The state attracted more than $12 million in clean technology venture
capital in the past three years, all of which has supported clean energy
generation. In 2008, Hawaii reached an agreement with Hawaiian Electric
Company to double the company's voluntary goal of providing 20 percent
of electric power from renewable resources by 2030.
